Most of us, in one way or another, strive to feel more confident. We often admire those who seem to embody confidence so naturally. In my coaching work, I help clients tap into the inner resources that allow them to show up with more self-belief, clarity, and presence.
Low confidence can shape our behaviour to our disadvantage. It may lead to procrastination, turning down lucrative opportunities, avoiding public speaking, hesitating to advocate for ourselves, underperforming despite our abilities, or having an elevated level of background stress.
If any of this resonates, you’re not alone. However, confidence is not fixed; it’s built.
A few powerful questions to reflect on:
• What do I tell myself in moments when I feel uncertain?
• What was happening the last time I felt truly confident?
• Is my confidence low everywhere—or only in specific situations?
• Do I genuinely lack skills, or am I doubting skills I already have?
In my coaching practice, I use CBT techniques to help clients challenge self-limiting beliefs, build evidence for their strengths, and develop new internal language—one that supports rather than sabotages.
One metaphor I love: Confidence is like a muscle: unused, it weakens, when excercised, it grows.
Even tiny but consistent reps build enough strength to lift things that once felt impossible.
Think of a child learning to walk. They didn’t walk because they felt confident.
They became confident because they walked.
And now WE all walk without thinking twice. We can also all walk the path of confidence.
Here’s a simple exercise you can try today:
Become 1% More Confident
Close your eyes for 10 seconds and imagine being just 1% braver in a situation you care about.
Ask yourself:
• What would I feel if I were more confident?
• What tiny action would reflect that 1% shift?
Write down one small, doable action—and try it today.
If confidence is an area you’d like to strengthen you are not alone. Many of my clients are engaging with coaching for that purpose.
