What has been “coded” into your “hard drive” since childhood and early youth? It shows up in small, almost automatic ways.
One anecdotal example; I grew up in a jewel-beautiful city where cleanliness was deeply ingrained. To this day, I can’t leave trash behind unless it’s in a designated place. It’s not a conscious choice—it’s automatic. And anything outside of that norm would create a subtle discomfort.
This is just one example of “coding” and it is neutral.
We are all “coded” early on – through family, schooling, environment, culture. Some of the codes once helped us operate safely and efficiently as children, as members of a family, as part of different social systems we have been operating in throughout our early lives.
Many of them still serve us.
Some of them don’t.
Some quietly shape how we think, how we act, how we make decisions, and even how confident we feel.
As yourself:
What is your coding?
Awareness is often the first step toward change. Notice your inner narratives, give them a thought. Are they still helping you—or holding you back? Are they reflective of who you are today, of your values, or are they quietly conflicting with you today?
Is it a time to toss some away?
